It was a day of mistakes yesterday:
I was not Freshly Pressed
Sorry if I gave the impression that I was. Thanks for all your positive comments. If wishing made it so….
I made a roast dinner on the hottest day of August so far
The Hub bought a huge gammon at a small gammon price and, rather than freeze it, I decided to make my first roast, with all the trimmings, in months. Unfortunately, so did the weather. I’m not ungrateful for the heat – it warms our webbed feet, after all – but why did it choose to be hot yesterday? I almost passed out when I opened the oven door.
I baked some fairy cakes
Always a mistake. Especially when I forget to add one of the main ingredients.
The weird thing is, they tasted fine.

I was not the only person to make a mistake yesterday. From – where else? – The Stockport Express:
An opportunist thief stole a van off a driveway as a senior police officer moved house.
Superintendent Vanessa Jardine was moving items from her home on Lower Fold, Marple Bridge, Stockport, when the rented vehicle was suddenly driven away.

Proving that it really can happen to anyone.
I know: I’ll make her a cake.

What did you leave out of the fairy cakes? It’s always a good idea to make cakes when you’re cooking a roast – using the same electricity twice, if you see what I mean.
That’s why I do it
The butter.
Ooer! Make sure you eat them all quickly – they won’t keep fresh long without better, and in any case, it’s a good excuse.
The kids will make sure of that!
butter’s better
Just one of those days, huh…
Well, it’s Terrific Tuesday, so nothing can go wrong today. You might even want to play the lottery.
Good idea! Pity it’s drawn on Woeful Wednesday
Hope you are doing better.
And even worse that she’s a top cop
Tilly I so wanted a pork roast yesterday!
It was so hot though, I had a salad instead

When I was about 10, my mum left me at home and I thought it would be nice if I made her some cake for her return. I had at some point tasted rock buns and I thought I’d make those. Recipe-less. I threw some flour and salt (note not sugar) in a bowl and if I remember rightly, some marg. and attempted mixing it all together. I spooned it into the little segments of the baking tray and thought it looked a bit dry, so I poured MILK into each little mixture and shoved the whole thing in the oven.
So proud of myself was I, I took some of the ready buns to a neighbour before my parents returned.
It turns out that I had figured out the exact composition of rocks. After yelling at me for using the cooker my mum needed to send me back to the neighbours in an effort to protect their teeth.
There’s a post already written for your blog
You can cook me a roast eve4n on a hot day anytime.
Why don’t you have air conditioning? I know, for the same reason we in Hawaii have no heater. LOL. But, we do have a/c, which we run almost every day during the summer and autumn. Occasionally during the winter and spring.
It is so rare to be hot here that there’s no point
My condolances for not being FP…. it should have been so..you do deserve it….
You mean it was so hot in the uK that you nearly passed out..which bit of UK was that..everyone else had rain so I heard
Which bit of the UK? My kitchen
What is it that they say ‘when it rains..it pours’ sounds like your day in a way.;-)
The price you pay for living in Stockport
Hi — what is a gammon and what are fairy cakes? Both sound wonderful. Yes, cooking a roast in the dog days of summer would be a definite mistake. Considering, though, that we’ve only had two of those days in our Alberta summer, cooking a roast might just be the thing to do.

Americans might call it a ‘ham’.

Cup cakes?
Yes, on both counts
I had a snappy comment…then I started reading all the other comments and mine vanished into the ether.
I wonder if she left the keys in the car?
She claims ‘they must have fallen out of my pocket’. My guess is you’re right
Ooh . . . something to add to my gratitude list for today:
73. I do NOT have webbed feet.
That must be an interesting list
Hope tomorrow goes better, Tilly!
It did, thanks
Is it actually hot? A few hundred miles north and I put my heating on today
Oh well. I suppose England has to stay hot right now. It is the school holidays after all, unlike here.
It was hot, for a day
