We Write Poems: ‘Collections’

3 Nov

From An Exasperated Wife

My husband collects
this, that and the other;

I think, why bother?
I’d put it all in the bin.

There’s no doubt
I’d like the lot cleared out.

Perhaps I’ll start with him.

I do empathize. It’s more prevalent amongst men, I think, this collecting gene. 🙂

I like the poem, but think you should keep Hub! Just don’t start collecting husbands.

Is this the Hub in disguise?

The person writing this comment. I think it must be because I don’t usually have to explain my jokes to Viv.

I really didn’t get it (points pistol to head) Isn’t anyone else alowed to side with Hub?

and your top illustration is an airport hub
Somehow I don’t see the Tillymister being set out with the rubbish.

Sigh. No. I love him too much to bin him; but I might lose my self-control one day as far as his humungous junk pile is concerned.

Thanks Viv, can I come and live with you? I will leave my collections here……the Hub.

Okay…I had to laugh out loud on this one being a bit of a collector myself.

    • Tilly Bud November 4, 2010 at 10:39 #

What about the poor people you live with?

      • Tilly Bud November 4, 2010 at 10:39 #

Meant to add: there’s no such thing as a ‘bit’ of a collector.

This made me laugh! Why is it the men are the ones collecting what we consider junk? My husband seems to collect old exams he has given, to students he longer teaches. I am forever finding them in folders and tossing them. When I ask “Why are you keeping these”? The answer is always the same, “I dunno”.

I guess it’s because they aren’t the ones doing the cleaning!

    the humor of love and possessions… now that’s a keeper… not a collection.. but a keeper… a recollection

I welcome your comments but be warned: I'm menopausal and as likely to snarl as smile. Wine or Maltesers are an acceptable bribe; or a compliment about my youthful looks and cheery disposition will do in a pinch.
