Sneezes…Aches…Coughs…It Must Be Time To Go Shopping

I dragged my poor, sick body – well, not so much a body as the world’s mucus supply in a skin bag – to the supermarket today, for our planned Christmas shop. We always do a big shop in Christmas week because we’re gluttons.

Oops, sorry, I didn’t finish that last sentence (too much sinus gunk stops the brain working): we’re gluttons for punishment. We could do it earlier but we like our food as fresh as possible – it lasts longer, which means we don’t have to leave the house until next year.

I hate shopping; and I hate Christmas shopping most of all. I particularly hate Christmas shopping on a tight budget: if we don’t have at least two meats, eight vegetables and thirteen puddings, I feel like poor Mrs Cratchit in Christmas Present.

This year was the first year that we didn’t have to queue at the till. The Hub said it was all in the timing: Monday at three, when people have either done their shopping at the weekend or are collecting their kids from school; but the till operator told me the store had been quiet all day – in Christmas week! There must be a recession on.

Apologies to my loyal readers for an unfunny post with a lot of whinging. I blame it on the snot.
