Something That Makes Me Smile

Today’s postaday2011 prompt is to write about something that makes you smile.  Tom Hanks makes me smile, and that’s all I have to say about that.  Okay, you know me well enough by now to know that that’s not true; I just like quoting Forrest, Forrest Gump.

I love his movies with Meg Ryan.  I was watching You’ve Got Mail for the zillionth time last night (can you believe there was ever a time with dial-up?) and I finally got around to writing down one of my favourite movie quotes:  Meg Ryan in her pre-serious lips-pre-serious roles days as Kathleen Kelley:

Once, I read a story about a butterfly on the subway and today I saw one.  It got on at 42nd and off at 59th, where I assume it was going to Bloomingdale’s to buy a hat that would turn out to be a mistake, as almost all hats are.

I love the idea of a butterfly shopping in Bloomingdale’s; it makes me smile every time.

What’s your favourite movie quote?

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe…attack ships of the shoulder of Orion. I’ve watched c beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All these moments…will be lost…in time…like tears in rain…time to die.
    Roy Batty Blade Runner.

I remember the scene but not the dialogue. Rutger Hauer was so good in that.

Oh, and, ‘Are you a professional Santa? How lovely!’ in About a Boy.
Kitty and I can amuse ourselves for hours with that one!

The older Meg Ryan films always make me smile, like you say before she did that to her lips.
Have you seen the first Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan film Joe Versus The Volcano ? if you haven’t you should check it out.

Yes, I love that one, though I know it wasn’t popular.

The first thing I ever saw her in was Top Gun and she shouted something like, ‘Kiss me now or lose me forever’ to Goose. I’ve loved her ever since (in romcoms, anyway).

      Thanks for stopping by.

I’m really weird with this because my favourite all time quote is form the lion king. It’s the bit where Rafiki hits Simba around the head, and says.
Arr the past can hurt, the way I see it is you can learn from it or you can run from…so what’s it gonna be?
Also I just love The magic roundabout…..lol
I love the bit in Dougal and the blue cat, right at the beginning, it goes something like this….
Dougal…Dougal…wakey-wakey! If you don’t get up I’ll SPIT!!!!
What-What…What-what. Send a life boat, ban the bomb……Is my nighty on fire, vote conservative keep off the grass. What-what…What-what.
    Don’t get confused my lovely.
********Well what can I say it’s just a classic.

I’ve seen The Lion King but not the other. I love that your favourite quotes are from children’s films 🙂

They show my true Aspie-nature. I have so many visuals I have to be careful what I watch, children’s films are wonderful and so insightful. I do love Forest Gump though. My son quotes Forest Gump all the time. He also quotes from Bridget Jones…he would kill me for saying this. He won’t find it here….lol

I’ve only seen that once and I don’t know any of the lines; are some of them well-known?

Me, too. I’ve always loved Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. I’ve not seen anything by her lately though.

Probably can’t see past her lips…why do people do that to themselves? Mickey Rourke’s face scares me these days.

my children and I can (mis) quote scarey amounts of Black Adder (all series)… other people often look at me in surprise when I say something like ‘I have a cunning plan, my lord…as cunning as a fox who’s just been appointed professor of cunning at Oxford University'(sad)

You have excellent taste! I can never hear the name (or word) ‘Bob’ without saying it just like Mr B. It makes me howl with laughter every time and the joke never gets old.

A butterfly shopping in Bloomingdale’s – just brilliant.

I heard of a cat that used to catch the bus by itself around Dukinfield! All the drivers knew it, allowed it on (without paying of course), and encouraged it where to get off it it was getting too comfortable! Remembering that always makes me smile xx

I welcome your comments but be warned: I'm menopausal and as likely to snarl as smile. Wine or Maltesers are an acceptable bribe; or a compliment about my youthful looks and cheery disposition will do in a pinch.
