Happy Mother’s Day, Mums

3 Apr

It’s Mother’s Day here in the UK.  I have been fortunate to have two great Mums: my own, a warm and generous woman, who, in spite of our difficult relationship, never loved me with anything less than her whole heart, and always let me know it; and my Mum-in-law (Mam), a warm and generous woman, who treated me like a daughter and always showed me she loved me too.

If you’d like to read about my own experience of Mother’s Day today, in which I show my love by berating my boys, head on over to my other blog.

Do you prefer talking or text messaging?

No.

What do you want for your last meal?

Something I didn’t cook.

If you could master any skill instantly, what would it be?

Driving.  I tried it.  Didn’t like it much.  The Hub suspected it might not be my thing when I almost demolished a wall behind which a family was enjoying a Sunday braai.  I will never forget their horrified faces as the Hub and I sat in the car arguing because he had wrenched the steering wheel from me and I demanded to know why he had to be so controlling.

A businessman dragged himself home and barely made it to his chair before he dropped, exhausted.

His sympathetic wife was right there with a tall, cool drink and a comforting word. “My, you look tired,” she said. “You must have had a hard day today. What happened to make you so exhausted?”

“It was terrible,” her husband shuddered. “The computer broke down and we all had to do our own thinking.”
