What occupation did you want as a child?
Believe it or not…writer. I also fancied being a teacher and an actress.
Are you sensing a pattern?

I am a little fat. I like food; what can I say? I have dull hair: mousey. I don’t wear much make-up and have no need of a dressing table. If I look like a bag lady, I chose my own clothes. If I look nice, the Hub picked them for me. Despite all this, I am a little vain. This photograph is from 2003. I had to go back that far to find one of me that I liked. But I don’t really care: my husband still thinks I’m beautiful and if he doesn’t, he loves me enough to lie about it. I’m lucky. I have two boys. They never lie to me. Still, you can't have everything.
I would love to hear from you!

What a food waste that would have been. A woman who can make beetroot look attractive, can do anything.

There’s always the “Miss America, Universe, World, etc. pageant answer:
“I want to be a brain surgeon or a model.”
Me? I wanted to be a physician. Didn’t change my mind until I got to college and realized that I had already spent enough time in school – couldn’t stand the thought of 10 years more. . .
Then decided I would be an actress/singer. Did that for a (small) while. Loved it, but soon realized that it’s hard to make a living that way. Got married instead, and raised actor/singer sons (though each have back-up trades and/or professions!). As much fun, and oddly more satisfying. . .
When Hubs was little he told people he was going to be a ballet danser or a doctor! When he was on shipboard on the way back from China (he was about 5 yrs. old), the only movie they had on board (an old troop-transport ship) was “The Red Shoes.” He figured that was why he wanted to be a ballet dancer. One of the people he loved while in China was a doctor. Interesting what can influence your desires to do one thing or another when you are small.

I wanted to be a nun for a while.I blame the swishy habit and the Sound of Music.I practised swishing for a while (dressing gown hanging from my head) and singing in the garden. Until I received an applause from neighbours who’d gathered at the fence. Then I switched to being an ice skater (Torvil and Dean) skating around my bedroom on my annuals. Then I went ice-skating, discovered I could not stand up and promptly decided I should become a lorry driver, journalist and the next female prime minister simultaneously.
I write and drive a minibus that pretends to be a car, one to go!!
