Weekly Photo Challenge: Water

30 May

Alexandra Park was given to the district of Edgeley by the Sykes family.  We can walk, fish (with a licence and so long as we throw them all back), go on the swings, picnic, play games.  It’s a nice park.

Every Tuesday afternoon, a bunch of old men gather on one side of the reservoir to sail boats and ignore passersby.

Why is that an interesting thing to do?  Same with remote control cars: why not drive the real thing?

I just don’t get it.

Model boats, trains, planes, and automobiles are a whole lot cheaper and less dangerous . . . especially for old men who just need to get out of the house for a bit. 😉

That’s what I was going to say! Great to have a good open space – parks are the lungs of a city.

We are well off in Stockport for parks, I’m glad to say.

I agree, but I just don’t see the attraction.

I really like your photo Tilly. Thanks.
People surely are an odd species, very hard to work out.
I guess that’s what makes the puzzle more interesting.
My brain likes working out puzzles, but people are not like jig-saws they keep changing and that makes it more complicated…hehehe.
I have to laugh about it, at least I have my bloggy friends. They are all open books and so much easier to understand.
    Love and hugs.
    Lisa xx 🙂

Boats work on the same principle as fishing when you throw the fish then throwing them back. To an observer both are a pointless exercise except to the particpants and then it’s a challenge!

Whoops my reply did not make sense …should be:

      You speak much sense 🙂

We have the same at Windsor Great Park with model planes. The answer to your question? I have no idea….

I must be tired, I read we can walk fish…

It kind of put another slant on your post!

    • Tilly Bud May 31, 2011 at 15:28 #

That would be so cool; it makes me guppy just thinking about it 🙂

Love the photo for this challenge, although I feel a bit like I’m in that boat that’s tipped over – lol

I guess driving model cars and boats etc makes up for not being able to do the real thing – maybe because of location/money etc.

What I really DON’T understand is those folks you see at Preston Train station…they watch as EVERY train passes by and then TICK it off their list…I mean, why don’t they just tick them all off in the first place and just go to the pub instead?

    Chloe xx

lol! The Hub was a plane spotter in healthier days: if you’ve never seen a grown man get excited at a new plane registration…well, count yourself lucky 🙂

I don’t get it either. Nice pic.

I don’t think it’s complicated – they can’t possibly afford the real thing.I had a sailboat (not motorised) as a child and loved watching it on the pond, running round to pull it out and set it off again.

Anyway, it gets them out of the house which must be good. Although I have reservations about the noise thing – particularly model airplanes.

      How peculiar 🙂

      I suppose that’s a fair point.

Wonderful example for the water challenge… Love it. Don’t get the toy car thingy either. 🙂

    Hi Tilly,

Love the photo comment: Water. Men never grow up; that’s part of their charm!
