The Day The TV Stood Still

UFO (TV series)

Sidey’s theme this weekend is UFO.  I can never hear ‘UFO’ without thinking of that programme from the Seventies with Ed Straker; do you remember it?

Here’s the thing: I’m pretty sure aliens were using it to control me.  Whenever I was off school – which wasn’t often – the same episode would always be on.  It didn’t matter if I was off morning, afternoon, all day or Saturday: the episode with the car driving down the road was on.

I think aliens were sending me subliminal messages not to drive.

Hmm.  Could the Hub be an alien?

That is so weird! Sci-fi books/films/TV leave me pretty cold – my one exception being the Day of the Triffids. I reckon if you believe in them, they will continue to be weird.

They’re out there, Tilly, and it’s crystal clear they didn’t want you to drive.

The show doesn’t ring a bell with me. I remember Twilight Zone and Lost in Space and Star Trek, but nothing specific about UFOs.

Now I think about it, I have a feeling it may be a British show; but I’m sure Ed Straker was American. I’m off to Wikiland.

Ed Straker was the character; played by Ed Bishop.

It was a British seriesbut syndicated in America. A mooted series 2 became Space 1999.

It is from the great Gerry Anderson.

        Thanks for piquing my interest.

I welcome your comments but be warned: I'm menopausal and as likely to snarl as smile. Wine or Maltesers are an acceptable bribe; or a compliment about my youthful looks and cheery disposition will do in a pinch.
