This was taken by the Hub: it is a beach in Burundi, on Lake Tanganyika. He was on a business trip with a colleague. He says you can see The Democratic Republic of Congo from this beach. In the background you can see what Wikipedia calls ‘the mountainous walls of the Great Rift Valley.’
The Hub also tells me that they came back to this beach at night and they could see, by the light of their torches, crocodile eyes. Many crocodile eyes.
They didn’t stay on that beach for long.

Fabulous picture. Crocodile eyes would creep me out too! On Seychelles beaches at night ghost crabs scuttle about, and what with active sandflies as well there’s enough to mke me flee the gorgeous scene.

Nature is pretty horrible, underneath.

Crocodile eyes! Geeeez!
Had it been me out there and seeing that, that photo would’ve never been taken.

It’s a pity they didn’t have a stopwatch, they’re probably the holders of the 100m world record.
If I’d been there the whizzing thing they’d have seen would have been me overtaking them.

Great photo and description, but I don’t think I would have stayed around for long to chat with the crocodiles

Great photo Tilly, and I loved the description that came with it! They say that crocs eyes are red at night – did the hub get close enough to see and confirm?

It was a long time ago and he struggled to remember. He thought they were silvery-green, but he wasn’t sure. I think he might have remembered if they had been red, though.

That certainly would have provided some discouragement regarding an extended visit!
I wouldn’t fancy a swim there. Mind you, I did a lot of swimming in Lake Malawi, and while there weren’t any crocs that I saw, there were certainly hippo!

You’re brave – hippos are much more dangerous than crocodiles.
