CoWAbunger Corn

10 Oct

This week’s winner might surprise you if you’re new here; but regular readers know I can’t resist a corny joke.  Throw in a fun number and she was bound to be a shoo-in: skipping politely over the double ‘the’, well done, Janie Jones of Janie’s Place Photofor this comment on 9.10.11:

Since we are talking numbers here, I will word my comment in the the form of a joke:

Why was the number 9 afraid?

Because seven “ate” nine.

I confess I did hesitate to give you the award because your blog is providing half my jokes for next year; but corn will out.

Here’s your award:

By the way, is your avatar a Gilmore Girl?  I didn’t notice until I blew it up.  If I’d known you’d have won a lot sooner, just for having great taste in tv.

Another reason to enjoy you, Tilly! You are a Gilmore Girls enthusiast! Moi aussi! Long live Lorelai, Rory, Lane, Luke, Suki, and the whole host of characters.

Well deserved award, BTW, it doesn’t get much cornier (or painful).

An American show about intelligent women, without overt sex and fashion. It’s on E4 almost as much as ‘Friends’.

My husband calls Riley and me “The Gilmore Girls” because I was a single mom for so many years. Love the pic of Alexis as Rosie the Riveter. And God, do I miss Luke. You could almost smell the coffee. SO glad Melissa McCarthy is popular now, since normal looking women almost never get work. Between Bridesmaids (which made Riley and me both pee our pants) and the US series, “Mike and Molly,” she is on fire.

As for Janie, all I can say is CORNgratulations!! Amy

I’m totally stealing your corn on the cow! And I LOVED Gilmore Girls too. I miss that show so much. Why can’t they write smart TV shows like that???

Thank you very much. I am deeply honored. Seriously. Although, I am torn between confessing that it took me 4 times re-reading the post to find the double ‘the’ and claiming it was done on purpose so you’d have something to make fun of. Or I could just blame it on my wonky eye.

And, yes, my avatar is actually Alexis Bledel, AKA Rory Gilmore. Gilmore Girls rocks, but I actually chose this photo because I love the original Rosie the Riveter. When looking for an image to shamelessly steal I came across this remake. I decided to use it instead because I actually looked a little like Alexis in my younger days, well, except I don’t have blue eyes and I was never that impossibly skinny. And, Gilmore Girls rocks.

Is Rosie the Riveter from the war?

Yes, and, in the original the words, “We Can Do It!” is printed as well. I think it’s very inspiring today as much as it was then. I also find it inspiring in the way that for probably the first time in history women were being accepted as strong and competent and welcomed into non traditional roles. However, the war ended and then they were sent home to squeeze out babies and bake chocolate chip cookies but it was a beginning.
