A young man moved away from his parents to become a student. Proudly showing off his new apartment to a couple of his friends late one night, he led the way to his bedroom, where there was a big brass gong.
“What’s that big brass gong?” one of the guests asked.
“It’s not a gong. It’s a talking clock,” the student replied.
“A talking clock? Seriously?” asked his astonished friend.
“Yup,” replied the student.
“How’s it work?” the second guest asked, squinting at it.
“Watch,” the student replied. He picked up a hammer, gave it an ear-shattering pound and stepped back.
The three stood looking at one another for a moment. Suddenly, someone on the other side of the wall screamed: “You idiot, it’s one o’clock in the morning!”
My son is about to graduate from the University of New Mexico. Sigh… I hope things will be better than this for him.

They will! Jon is a go-getter. A lot of students walk out of university expecting to walk in to a job, without making the effort; he will make it happen.

Good bonging, Tilly.
(I have a dinner gong to summon the family to tea time – I got fed up with shouting like a fish wife 🙂 )

sure the neighbours on the other side of the wall I shared with 5 of my sorority sisters could related to this. 4 sleepless years later, crumpled expensive paper in hand……to stay at home and raise the kiddos. who of course…..bang on the walls. I guess it’s true: what goes around, comes around. or at very least, drives you up the walls.

I’ve heard it said that we had neighbours move out in my teenage years because of my record player. Surely not?
