Send A Christmas Card Into Space

6 Dec

I did something fun the other day: I sent the people on the International Space Station a cyberpostcard for Christmas.

It’s free, it’s easy, it’s a nice thing to do, so why don’t you have a go?

One thing puzzles me – I’m sending it through cyberspace, which, technically, doesn’t exist; into outer space, which is, I suppose, nothing.  Does that mean it will end up in the same place as the post that comes through my local sorting office i.e. nowhere?

Done! Do I have to add them to my permanent Christmas card list or will they be back on earth next year?

Thanks. Does that mean you’ll send them a card?

If space is nothing, then we’ve spent A LOT of money sending men nowhere. Sounds about right…

I’ll send them a card. That will make everyone feel better. 😉

No, no, no! Exploration is good just for the sake of it. No one knows what benefits will come from it, but something always does.

They first sent men into space using computers that were less powerful than your desktop pc – don’t you think bravery like that deserves a postcard?

That was weird because for sending a card to outer space, it was way to easy. I would think it to be a little more complicated, like traversing to 10 different sites with different pass codes or something in that vein. No, this was click onto link, pick postcard, click on it, write message, write name and city and click send and done. Off into outer space. Amazing.
