In all the excitement of Sunday’s anniversary and my first – and last – You Tube appearance, I forgot to update you on what I’ve been doing with the 101/1001 challenge. Not much, as it happens, so this will be a short post.
Read 101 new books (26/101)
In spite of my new Kindle, which has become my symbiont à la Trill tradition (non-Trekkies should look away now) – or maybe it’s the other way around, because I can’t live without it, but it can survive without me, though not electricity – this is becoming a triangle in which it appears I am a necessary evil in order for the Kindle to exist – in spite of all that, I have read just three new books in three months. I have read a ton of old favourites, of course, and some rather bad Agatha Christies, but I need to open myself up to the possibility of enjoying new books by people I’ve never heard of.
Any suggestions? Preference will be given to books that are free to download.
Tell a joke every day for the next 1001 days (371/1001)
I’m bang on target with that one.
I’m still looking for the perfect joke for Day 1001, however. Any suggestions? Preference will be given to those that make me laugh.
Write 1001 new poems (325/1001)
I’m way behind on this one. Blame Twilight.
Save £1 for each completed task.
I’m way behind on this one. Blame the recession.
Walk the dogs for 1001 hours (269.55/1001)
Way behind on this one, too. Blame the weather.
I do walk them every day, but only until the frostbite starts.
Get the first series of Glee on dvd.
Behind on this. Blame my anti-Glee family.
*
Of the 68 tasks I have set myself so far, I have completed seventeen.
The challenge may be fun but it appears I’m not rising to it. Sarsm‘s snail is starting to look like an insult, not a celebration:
With regards to the book problem, this site might be helpful: http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/

You need to barricade yourself in your lovely lounge area with the boxed set of Glee and do a Glee marathon. The men folk will be able to survive. Watch the marathon with a friend. The hubby and I really enjoy Glee, I’m sure that you can see me loving Glee but the hubby does as well. He enjoys the new show Smash. He was into musical theater when he was little. Oklahoma!

The problem is, I don’t own the box set of Glee. No one will buy it for me.

Good luck with that, Tilly. Sorry, I don’t know any jokes, I have to come to you for a laugh. 😉

We just got back online this week after a month of our connection being off (thank you, Orange broadband) so I am just catching up. I love the YouTube video! Which brings me to my next question – can I have a song for my next birthday instead of a poem? 😉
LikeLike
Any particular song? And remind me again of your birth date – is it January 1st?
LikeLike
Yes, I was a New Year baby. If you were really brave you could sing ‘Deborah’ by TRex! (though it does say something about having a face like a sunken galleon. Oh well. I am 44 after all)
seriously, any song will be fine! (I never thought you would agree…)

If I were to give you recommendations for your Kindle, I would no longer be your blogging friend and you would probably block me because I have over 500 books on my Kindle account. Remember I am zipping through my 100 Book Challenge and spend a great deal of my time glued to my Kindle when I should be doing basic tasks.

You are amazing, the way you zip through them. Most of them are not to my taste, unfortunately 😦

As you read in my statistical analysis – Argh!!! 😉
Actually, my statistical analysis was just my wacko sense of humour kicking in. I actually think I’m doing really well.
And the reason is this: without the challenge I wouldn’t have gone to a Murder mystery dinner at all, despite having wanted to do so for many years, because in all those years I hadn’t done so. And the same goes for the spa, and the dates with my husband, and the having flowers delivered. I probably would have watched the films and tried new recipes, but neither would have left me with any sense of achievement.
So I think that your 17 completed tasks are brilliant!!! (And actually, you’ve done more than 17 because your already part way through several of your tasks).
And in case I forgot to mention it on here: I thought your You Tube entry was brilliant!!

Yes, I’d have done some of the things anyway; but most of them, I would not, so I’m having fun.
Did another one today…played drums in church!

That’s brilliant – you should have done a You Tube video of that one!!
I’ve just realized that I’m totally dim with your April Fools Joke – I was totally taken in, but had already read your following post.

I would probably be behind too! If I were to have a category for excuses I would be lagging in that area as well. I love the reasons…I have an anti-Glee family here and I love the Twilight books. Continue to enjoy reading your thoughts.

Tilly Bud, my dear, I know you feel discouraged right now, but your native happiness will take back over soon, and you’ll believe again that you can do this. 😎

No, you misunderstood. I was poking fun at myself. But I was surprised how few I’d completed.
Thank you for the support; it is appreciated.

Oh, but you did make some progess, right? Congrats for that, at least. For me it is always easy come easy go. Maybe the Hawaiian sun helps… though it does not help me cope with colitis!

I did, and I’ve enjoyed it, which has been the point of the exercise.

I think you’re doing a marvelous job, I looked into this & couldn’t even get a list together to get started it felt so daunting. Maybe after I’m a little farther away from my blue funk I could consider it again.
As for free reading downloads – I have a Sony Reader so I go to the Reader Store at Amazon & they have all kinds of free stuff to download. There is a guy at Mark My Words who is selling his own book, seems pretty reasonable, sounds like a spy type thing. You could go check him out on his blog.
Now, get back to the tasks at hand or I’ll have to stone you with the Malteasers you confiscated from me after my last comments.
LikeLike
The important thing to remember is that you have total control, so your 101 tasks could be to do ten each of anything you like doing – e.g. 1. read ten books 2. watch ten movies 3. eat ten boxes of Maltesers…

Now I could really get behind eating ten boxes of Malteasers!

Have you tried reading anything by Wilbur H Smith or Diana Gabaldon? They both have some great series out there. Smith is a bit more historical fiction, branching off into magical from time to time. Gabaldon is historical fiction also.

Read lots of WHSmith in my twenties but lost the taste for him. Haven’t heard of Diana Gabaldon. One to look out for. Thanks!

I got stuck in the slime of that snail. Escargot anyone? Yes you do keep up with the jokes. I hope you have discovered Janet Evanovich. Start with “One for the Money.” They are numbered.
She looked really old on the first dust jacket. Now she looks about 30 years younger. (Must be the face lift and hair dye job. You too can make money writing.) PLus she has lots of laughs. Dianne

Try reading the Hunger Games (the film is out now). It’s supposedly for young adults (well, I’m only 54) but Tingirl nagged me and nagged me to read it, which I spent all of last Sunday doing, and am now half way through the 2nd book of the trilogy.
Is that Trekkies a real book? I just have to read it…

THG: I nabbed the curate this morning, who was walking around with a copy. She’s added me to the list of future borrowers.

Does your library offer book downloads on your kindle? Mine does audiobooks and kindle type books. Not every book is available but those that are are free. I don’t have a kindle and I still love to read on real paper, especially when I stare long enough at a computer screen every day.
Good job moving along with your 101 in 1001 tasks, even though it’s not always easy to get some of these done. That’s why they’re on your list, right, to challenge you?
