Read This, Please.

Please Read This.

If you never read anything I write ever again, please read this:

I’m Christian, unless you’re gay.

I didn’t write it, Single Dad Laughing did, five months ago.  I just read it now.  Everybody should read it.  And share it.

There were many responses, but this one made me cry:

A Teen’s Brave Response to “I’m Christian, Unless You’re Gay”

Read it.

Wow. Thanks for the link. Great article and the response you highlighted was very moving. It just goes to show how much these things still need to be discussed. And the real benefits to people’s lives that can come about by talking frankly and openly about them. SingleDadLaughing should be proud of his post’s effect.

Although I can’t help but find it disheartening that even in the 21st century something so obvious and essentially trivial can remain such a contentious issue. Oh well, baby steps I suppose…

That’s it, I’m afraid. There is always another prejudice waiting around the corner.

The good news is, there’s always another person round that corner, willing to stand up and say, ‘This is not okay.’ Just like SDL.

Thank you, Till, thank you so much. It’s made me think already, and I’ve only finished reading it. I hoping it will effect me more and more as it sinks in.
I’m not anti-gay, there are several gay people at work (that we know of) and they are all people I get on with, but I’m thinking now of other people at work who get on my nerves, and people in the pub who I really don’t like, and I’m starting to think “just what is it about them that is so bad?”
The line from the mother’s response “I never knew how unhappy he was until I could finally see how happy he could be” is lovely, and heart-breaking.
    Thanks again.

(Ps. I’m still going to read what you write).

Nothing but the truth. It’s sad that things that are so obvious (at least for me) need to be remainded to people over and over again.

    Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for the link, the church in my town is one of those churches that isn’t welcoming of the “other”. I live right across the street from it and I never go which is awkward at times when some very nice townspeople ask “why don’t we see you”. I haven’t gathered the courage to say that I really dislike bigotry and prejudice to them because they are so weird, they are your regular nice small townspeople who will help you out in a second unless you are an “other”. My daughter goes to the church and she has many debates and they get heated about how everyone deserves to be loved and accepted. She is a champ because she doesn’t give into the hate and stands up for those who can’t do it for themselves.

We don’t seem to have that problem in the UK, that I’m aware of. Could be because only about 12% of the population go to church – any new member is welcomed with open arms 🙂

    Hi T.B. ~~ First off, Happy 6WS! 🙂
Yes, read it. Or parts. His blog is messy with too many ads, etc, and kept dropping out before it came up all the way.

I am Baptist and I don’t hate gays. I don’t believe that God hates gays either and that there are more Christian gays than anything else. The Bible does say that God doesn’t like for people to act like many gays act.

But we are still to “love our neighbor” as we do ourselves. Peope who hate gays must hate themselves too. I am sure that they are very miserable and hateful people in general. 😥

Oh yes, I wish I could help or visit your mom. You are a good daughter and are doing a really good job of helping her. I know it is frustrating for you to be so far away.

Best wishes for her and I hope she gets well FAST!

        But thanks anyway.

Such a fantastic article. I am a Christian and it continually surprises me how other Christians have created this heirarchy of sin – which I can’t find any evidence of in the bible – so that some how one sin is worse than another. Like being gay is so, so much worse, than, oh… I don’t know…..spreading hate and intolerance.
Sin is sin. Anything that separates you from the Love of God is sin – and mine is no better, no worse than your own. Because the saddest part of all of it is to be a bound captive to that sin – especially a captive unaware. Which is what these “Christians” are. You cannot fully know the love of God in your heart if you are harbouring hatred in there as well. That cannot co-exist. Thus….finger pointers I submit – you know not God at all.

1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

And woe unto to you that have turned many away from the loving God I know, because you could not show His love to others you deemed beneath you. Come to think of it….I’d much rather stand before Him on Judgement day with the “sin” of being gay, than the sin of having falied his Greatest Commandment. Wow – I just would not want to be you.

I started off by reading the “wrong” link, about single dads, then read the gays one. He seems a wise enough chap but I find it very depressing that we have so much intolerance in the world. I am not immune but I try to be. Maybe this is a good time to remind us to try harder.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Tilly – I read both articles all the way through. They gave me a lot to think about. One of my friends is gay & he seems so together most of the time, but every once in a while he’ll let it slip about some way someone has been intolerant of him & it makes me angry when I hear it. I have shared this on my Facebook page in the hope more people will be touched by this.
And I will continue to read your posts too even if you take away my Malteaser privileges. (Please, please don’t take away my Malteaser privileges).

I think this is beautiful. As a non christian person myself, I have been told to my face that I am not worth saving because I have no soul. I don’t let it bother me, my skin is thick enough to turn the other cheek. However, I have also had a very devout Catholic friend tell me that of all her family and friends, I am the only one who she can turn to in a crisis of faith. I laugh to myself and think how funny is that? But, I also think it just goes to show that Single Dad Laughing has an excellent point: it’s not our job to judge others, as tempting as it may sometimes be, for I think we’ve all been there; and as easy as it seems, that undesirable job should be left for greater powers. Our only job is to love one another. I don’t always find it easy, but I do find the more you practice the better you get at it and the happier you become. Thanks for sharing. And, seeing as I’ve found a source of Maltesers State-side, I don’t have to run the risk of being cut off when I say, Tilly Bud, you make the blogosphere a better place.

I read it and sadly the mentality will persist. As long as there are people who see their religion and world view as valid, and everyone else’s as irrelevant, hate, prejudice and ignorance will persist… Thanks Tilly!
