I’m late with this one because the summer holiday weeks all merged into one.
Rather like my children.
Take this photo:
I’m almost certain it is Spud because it’s taken from the left – my hospital bed was on the left wall when I had him and on the right when I had Tory Boy.
Is it terrible that I can recall the position of my beds after childbirth but not what my new children looked like?
The problem is that both boys looked like their father at birth which means they also looked like each other. It’s been sixteen/twenty-two years and my memory isn’t what it once was, and that wasn’t much.
I say Spud looked like his father and brother, but he also looked like someone else. I had him by Caesarian and the anaesthetist (why does childbirth have so many aes? Coincidentally, A+E stands for Accident and Emergency in the UK – the equivalent of the American ER – and accidents often result in emergencies that include childbirth nine months on. Well it does in my family), a lovely man, held me up as the gynaecologist (see!) yanked him out.
What emerged was a fat, blue and crinkly Spud. My first thought – I swear this is true – was, ‘Oh, he looks like the alien baby from V.’
Tell me I’m wrong:
Nothing like. And the baby is on YOUR right,

Yes, but the pic was taken from the left of the doorway, where I’m standing when I look at it.

I thought I’d NEVER mix up baby pics of my two boys. Ha. 30 years later I have to look at the background of the photo to see where we were living to figure out the baby in the pic. 🙂

When my John was born, I looked at him and said, you sure are funny looking. The nurse in attendance said, “He is not.”
Are you sure the photo didn’t get reversed? That would mean you were in the other side of the room.
I wonder where your husband got his looks?

I don’t think so. The decor is blue and green on the right, I’m sure.

I think that Viv is right, you might be talking about Tory Boy. Either way if Spud looked like Tory Boy they are both handsome babies. I had both of mine naturally and the baby boy was in distress so he was forcibly removed with forceps and he had a black eye and a broken clavicle. The baby girl was also in distress and I ejected her forcibly on my own so she wasn’t as damaged. My memory is horrible except for those two occasions, they are seared into my brain.

Poor babies! I found my Caesareans quite un-traumatic, and both babies were unbruised, thank goodness.

I always used to say that all babies (including my own) looked like hor dourves, much to my wife’s chagrin. Then my granddaughters came along and I realized babies are the most beautiful creatures in the world. I’m sure the grandparents of that one in the last picture feel the same way.

They did! All of the grandchildren were doted on in a way that put out the noses of their parents 🙂

This I can relate very much too .. even if I never given birth and I think that new born babies looks a bit alien. Worked on a maternity ward a short period as young

What a gorgeous guy! But what did we expect? 😉
I always say newborns look the way they will look when they are senior citizens, and we get a glimpse because we will not be around to see the real thing.
My husband always says, “All babies look alike.” Ha.

Funny how our babies can look the same. I have the same problem, but at least digital photos have dates, so it helps. I also sometimes can’t spit the right name out, so I call them Thing 1 and Thing 2… Dr Seuss would be proud.
