I wrote this on Facebook yesterday:
Writing workshop this morning; eldest son home this afternoon; Dr Who tonight. Can this day get any better?!!
(Without the italics, of course; Facebook seems to be averse to correct punctuation. I don’t understand that(.

Workshop – awesome. Your son visiting – epic. Dr Who – not on until Christmas. Gutted 😦
I was gutted, too. She compensated by:
- Giving me a gift of cute post-it notes – so that I could write cute love notes to the Hub, because we ‘like that sort of thing.’ She doesn’t know me very well. I got the present so that my ‘birthday week doesn’t have to end yet.’ She knows me so well. She also gave me a box of Maltesers. I think I love her.
- Giving me a lift to the workshop, which was forty miles away. Thank goodness I had the sense to book her on it when I booked my place.
I’d forgotten that British TV now does that stupid season break thing. America, I love you, but what’s with that? Why can’t your TV shows act in a civilised manner and air until they are finished? Lucky for you I’ve got extra Maltesers and I wrote nine poems yesterday, or I’d be a tad grumpy.
Now I am grumpy – what an irritating word ‘tad’ is. I can’t believe I used it.
Time for a quick Malteser fix, I think.

…peel off the chocolate…allow the malt to tease my taste buds…swig of Earl Grey…aaahh! My universe has righted itself.
That was the moment Hub chose to break it to me that eldest son was not coming home yesterday (I hadn’t noticed, being high on chocolate and poetry).
Someone pass me a dictionary; my mood is a tad violent….

I also hate the breaks the networks take in their programming. They start the new season late in Sept. or early Oct., then take a break from the end of Nov. until January. Then they give us about 8 – 10 more episodes & they’re off for the year. What is with this?? I guess they never think of the people who can’t get out & about too much. What I often do is start watching the re-runs of a series I wasn’t sure I wanted to watch in the fall & then get interested in it so it extends my viewing time. Or I go back & watch some renovation shows, etc.

You frightened me when you said “Dr Who tonight” because we had reckoned the series was over and so hadn’t bothered looking. They only made five episodes this time,

If it wasn’t for the DVR, I could never keep track of programing anymore. Some series run in the summer, some in the winter, some in chunks of a few episodes here or there. At least we now have some new programing in the summer. It used to be only reruns from May to September.

See? Your birthday week is quickly turning into a birthday month. Nothing bad about that. The longer you can stretch it out, the better. Yes, our American television season hasn’t made sense since the 70s. I can’t tell when the season starts and ends, Some new shows start in September, some in October, some in January. It’s enough to drive one over the edge. Then there’s the cable channels where the new shows start all the time. The Real Housewives of Wherever are constantly starting and having reunion shows that seem to be as long as their series. They are entertaining. I can’t believe they are the real housewives of anywhere. Their lifestyles are not like those of any housewives I know. Dr. Who makes much more sense. In fact, Animal Doctor makes more sense.

I am glad Dr Who has cleared off my son couldn’t sleep after the last episode, so when it returns, we shall be strategically out every time it airs. I sure hope he doesn’t find the iplayer…

I wanted to kill everyone in sight on Friday and I did not even have all the disappointments you had. Let us hope next week will look brighter, oh no! I start work a half hour earlier everyday 😦 who can I kill?

But Merlin is back. Re non-appearance of elder son: had you forgotten he was there for your birthday only a week ago? Once in a blue moon is the best you can hope for once they grow up and away. When do I get to see 9 new poems?

We stopped watching Merlin when Spud lost interest.
Eldest came Sunday instead. He had to come because he’s packed a huge bag to take back with him.
As for the poems – I never said they were good poems 😉 Actually, you might see one in the SA collection.

Here in Canada we’re a bit fed up with the network schedules, too. A new ‘season’ amounts to 6 episodes and then you have to wait a year to get the next ‘season’. Trouble is, they’re producing some damn fine shows so we’re hooked. Currently it’s Hell on Wheels, which ends tonight. Next week the long, long awaited return of Walking Dead. Can’t wait! Oh, and happy birthday!

I’m sorry about the season breaks, Tilly! I remember when they first started pulling that nonsense with American television and found it impossible. Now I kind of like the breaks. It gives me time to try other shows, but I do understand! Chocolate helps me get through many crises, too! Debra
