Beauty Tip: Moisturise Your Eyebrows

3 Nov

There’s no denying it: my eyebrows have dandruff.  I won’t post a photo of it because, eurgh.

Blogging curse:

self-conscious about my eyebrows.

I post a lot of photos of myself on my blog (and yet I am not at all vain; aren’t I lovely?).  I began to notice a while back that my eyebrows look massive in photographs.  They are not massive, but they look it.

I keep my eyebrows trim with Spud’s nose hair clippers* but, despite being quite narrow, they look bushy.  It may be my glasses making them look like an old man’s because, when I take off the glasses and look at my eyebrows in the mirror, they are definitely not bushy.  Not now I have had at them with my Mum’s old tweezers.

*The clippers he gave to me one Christmas, not any clippers he might use on his own nose. Eurgh again.  What’s wrong with you people?

I have pared them back to look almost pencilled in but now I am afraid to take a photograph because what if I’m wrong and they are still as bushy as a squirrel’s tail?

Also, I noticed something when I was de-hairing myself: the skin on my eyebrows is really dry.   I moisturise regularly so I don’t understand it.  I slather that stuff on my face every day, as my mother taught me (I wish I had listened to her when she said slap it on your chin to keep it from doubling and your neck to keep it from wrinkling but you know what teenage daughters are like).  I always have cream in the house because I have a friend who is allergic to everything and she always gives me her handcream gift sets after Christmas (do I own nothing in my beauty regimen that I bought for myself?).

I don’t understand it.

Ah well.  Time to trim my moustache.  Where are the Hub’s clippers?

The French version of eurgh is BUERK, pronounced BAIRK which is another satisfying word.

Aren’t you the lucky one to have a beauty regime! I sympathise with your feelings about your eyebrows – my obsession is my beard.!

Mine are so sparse, I always have to draw them in or I look faceless. Can’t win, can you?

I find it best not to look in the mirror at all – or not to put my reading glasses on when I look! That way, with the slightly blurred/out of focus view, I can trick myself into thinking that my eyebrows are fine. 😉

I always get my eyebrows done at the beauticians because without my glasses I think they look just fine and when I have a go myself with my glasses on they go all lop-sided.

Bushy is not so bad, I work with a young girl who draws them on that straight and black and fake that all you can do is look at them when she is talking to you. As you say eurgh!

I have tweezers in my car and when I am out in the sunlight I can look in the mirror and see better to pluck them! I also can see the chin hairs that crop up now and then and I get them plucked out too…ouch! they hurt when I do those!!!! What we don’t do for beauty! Ha!(:>)

I had eyebrow dandruff, it is old skin cells stuck in the brows, not dry skin. My regimen is basic. Exfoliate on Monday and Thursday evenings and moisturize mornings and night. Does it work? I don’t know but my skin feels better. Lush.com is a British company that makes all natural skin products and I use their sea salt exfoliating cream, it isn’t very expensive. I found it in my travels through France. Love it.:)

medically speaking the body’s hormones change with age, therefore, the drying process begins, including flakes. there are many products on the market but the truest, cheapest and easiest way to hold nature’s moisture in, is plain old vaseoline. put some on dry areas at night as you go to bed and if u need some in the wintery morning hours, redab. i have this also, but i am middle aged

I use baby oil because it works for me. I never had eyebrow flake until menopause and then suddenly I had dandruff that rivaled a snowstorm.

lol… who would have thought… perhaps you could design and patent an eyebrow conditioning kit… complete with moisturizer and clippers… and who knows maybe throw in a pencil or two for laughs…

High-brow humor? That’s the best pun I could muster, because I’m so depressed that – having just started waxing the black hairs on my upper lip (I’m blonde, for crying out loud) – I’ve got to worry about eyebrow dandruff now? What else are people not telling me about peri-menopause?! Never mind. I don’t want to know. I really, really don’t want to know. Because I’d forget (another symptom, sometimes useful, sometimes not).

Good advice, T.Bud. I let a lady put some nice smelling moisturizer on my hands at Sulfridges this afternoon. Generally I don’t do that as I am very allergic to most perfumed items. This one smelled of a fruit that I did not identify.

I take a brush to draw them in, and then I see myself in a mirror and my first reaction is “who is that old lady with the drawn-on eyebrows?” I’m shocked every single time when I realize it is me.

I have virtually no eyebrows anymore. Apparently there is a nervous condition where people pull their hair, eyebrows, etc. out with their fingers & I have it. It started for me when I with with my grandmother as she was dying. I bent over to kiss her & all I could see were these bushy grey eyebrows. She had been sick for a little bit & hadn’t been able to groom well. Ever since then, I can’t have eyebrow hair or it starts to bug me to no end.

Thanks, but not problem. My eyebrows have always been very sparse, and white-blonde. (Probably just plain white now.) This shows up as invisible! I used to apply pencil but I don’t bother these days. As I have worn glasses since childhood, the apparent lack of eyebrows isn’t all that obvious anyway.

While I can’t say I can relate precisely to eyebrow dandruff, I have been cursed with the unibrow and hair that sprouts unbelievably fast. I have to do massive eyebrow tweezing daily so people will know I do indeed have two distinct, reasonably feminine shaped brows. So, I speak from some experience when I say, your eyebrows have never looked bushy to me. It must be true, I have been told my whole life that pictures never lie.
