O…oohhhh

I see what I did there…

Gremlin

Gremlin (Photo credit: inkognitoh)

Breathe easy, the gremlin lives.

It was, uh, me.  I did it.  It’s a fair cop.

Seems I tried to add a new page instead of add a new post <blush>

I wiped out my own text and new page pages don’t have the same features as new post pages.  Whoops.  Sorry about that.

It’s not the first problem I’ve had with my electric life this week.  A good friend sent me an Amazon gift certificate for a poetry book for my Kindle.  I had real trouble getting the book because I did it through my Kindle at first and it came off my credit card so then I reversed it and tried to buy it online and it wouldn’t let me because it said I had already bought it.

Then I spent a day fretting about how to use the gift voucher and sending emails to Amazon whose reply was useless.  This morning, I took another look at the Amazon email about the voucher and noticed a handy little button, ‘Apply gift certificate to your account’.  Did that first and then purchased the book and now it should be on my Kindle.

Small panic break.
*
It’s not there!

Small think break.
*
It might appear if I turn the wifi on…
*
Ta-da!
(
I’m such a Dodo.

I may be out of action for the next few days while I punish myself for losing good text.  Actually, for the purposes of this post it was great text, the best text I’ve ever written: witty, erudite, informative.

Now it’s gone forever.  Remember – I did say that no one messes with my blog posts and gets away with it.  I’m scrupulously fair, if technologically stupid.

Somebody find me a gremlin and a whip.  One of us is going to suffer today, that’s for sure.

I have had troubles with kindle and amazon, too. They won’t let me order things they think I already have, but I do not have them. They also think I do not have and account, although I GO TO amazon from my kindle. I think there’s a burn ban in the Amazon, or I would Kindle a little surpise there? Or not.

I have the same problem with Amazon and my Kindle, which is registered to Amazon France, and half the time they’ve never heard of whatever it is I want. Amazon UK will not sell Kindle books to an address in France. So I am often stymied.

My son sent me big river gift vouchers which he could ill afford, and I was never able to use them due to a similar failure to integrate the various branches of Amazon. As Tilly says, their answers to queries are absolutely useless.

I’m glad you’ve solved the problem, but sorry that you still lost your work. I’m sure if we could read it we would be nominating it for a national literary award.
You’ve reminded me that I have an Amazon voucher, and keep forgetting to use it!

Amazon, Kindle, vouchers, new posts/pages ….haha I am so techno-illiterate I am afraid to try anything new for fear I will ruin something forever. I used to work in an office where they banned me from the fax machine and printer as every time I touched them they broke. My boss once stood over me and watched every step I took in making copies and first the paper jammed then the toner cartridge exploded that was the day I was banned. I tried to tell everyone it was just my wonderful magnetism at work but they didn’t buy that!

I did something similar recently with a post…. somehow it ended up in the recycle bin, and when I found it and went to retrieve it, in bed on my iPad (stupid me) I hovered my finger over restore & my iPad chose to click permanently delete. And of course, on this occasion there were not a series of ‘are you sure you want to do this’ ‘are you completely and utterly positive you want to do this’ messages…. NO. Instead I just received a curt message. “Post Peleted” & that was it. 😦 Gutted.

That was the 29th of October & im still sore.

      Deleted, not Peleted.

If it had said Peleted I wouldn’t have even thought of smiling!

I have noticed that those small technical things create the greatest problems when working with technology….I now try to backup everything…since I have committed the same crime as yours. 🙂 I ship over my gremlin to you…he’s bothered me enough for a life time.

The feature on Amazon that won’t let you make a Kindle purchase twice is quite nice. You can go into your account, find “manage your Kindle” and get anything changed. I do it all the time. You will not however, find that witty bit you wrote. That is lost forever in cyberspace…probably. Dianne

I have bought so many books for my Kindle lately and need to find the time to read them all. Maybe after my trip.

Sorry about the lost work of art!

When my husband tried to post his first comment on my blog, he ended up publishing a post. It was pretty funny….after I got over being mortified because I was a brand new blogger and didnt want to look like an idiot a the time (now I don’t care if I look like an idiot, lol). http://momopolize.com/2012/09/06/publish-blog-entry-not-comment/

I welcome your comments but be warned: I'm menopausal and as likely to snarl as smile. Wine or Maltesers are an acceptable bribe; or a compliment about my youthful looks and cheery disposition will do in a pinch.
