Yesterday, I cried for those poor children and teachers. Today, I cried when I was reminded of all the good in the world.
Tory Boy read my post yesterday and sent it to me. I am so grateful to have thoughtful children.
I am so grateful to have my children at all.
I am a little fat. I like food; what can I say? I have dull hair: mousey. I don’t wear much make-up and have no need of a dressing table. If I look like a bag lady, I chose my own clothes. If I look nice, the Hub picked them for me. Despite all this, I am a little vain. This photograph is from 2003. I had to go back that far to find one of me that I liked. But I don’t really care: my husband still thinks I’m beautiful and if he doesn’t, he loves me enough to lie about it. I’m lucky. I have two boys. They never lie to me. Still, you can't have everything.

I found myself crying at the blog your link took me to. And yet these kindnesses are happening all around us daily and are not reported.
I think this is what we have to hold onto: the vast majority of people are kind and good and thoughtful. Every day I see this.
Sadly there are some very disturbed and mentally ill people out there and the acts they carry out are forcefully and repeatedly reported and we get a distorted impression of mankind. It was such an unbelievably sad event: all those children and adults killed: it obviously was done by someone who was unbalanced – and most importantly, had free access to guns. This has to be a turning point in the gun culture of America.
I feel it is imperative that we start to have reports on the ‘good’ as well as the ‘bad’ in our news to somewhat redress the balance – not in a schmaltzy way, but in a matter of fact way.
The way our entertainments industry uses aggression, violence with guns and knives etc to add an adrenalin rush to films tends to ‘normalise’ such behaviour and this is detrimental to those who have had an upbringing which has lacked any setting of ‘moral boundaries.’ There is a blurring of what is acceptable. Programmes such as EastEnders even, all add to the pot mix.

It is true… the media pounds in all the horror, all the time. Bad thing after bad thing. It is important to keep humanity in perspective. I believe most people are good. The trick is remembering that.

Thanks so much for posting this. We Americans who are so hurting (we learned just this morning that sales of handguns are up this year) needed to read this and remember that there are good people who help others in the world and who love others and who forgive. We are learning that even in the midst of our tragedy as the father of little Emilie who died came on the television to offer his condolenscences to the shooter’s families as well as to the families of the others who died. The bravery of this man was amazing. He is another reason to restore faith in humanity, who in the face of his own sorrow. thought of others.

I always watch with empathy when there are mass murders being the head line news. but for some reason this one , killing such small children has crushed me. You can still find one tear falling even today as I hear more development of the tragedy. I should just surround myself in music and not turned that television box on!!!

someone shared that link with me too. so over 2 days, these eyes have shed much tears. In the wake of such tragedy, it can be so hard to see the good, the helper….the miracle. we just have to learn to look harder, or see with better eyes I guess.

Tilly, that was just what I needed today, it had me crying, yes, but soaring high as a kite! The fact that your son was so thoughtful, feeling your pain – that made me cry too.
The media should be reporting more on these random acts of kindness – they are so uplifting.

I bet if we all turned off the news until they started broadcasting nice things, it would work.
Unfortunately, we will never turn off the news. And we should know about the bad things, of course. Just not at the expense of all good news.
