I read an article where Barbara Walters asked Rachel Campos-Duffy, “Did you ever think, ‘I wish I had a career and I didn’t have six kids?’ “

My first reaction was, I bet she never asked a man that question.

But then I thought about how I would reply if she had asked me, so here’s our imaginary conversation:

*

BW: Tilly, did you ever think, ‘I wish I had a career and I didn’t have two kids’?

TB: No.

*

Isn’t it nice when you can look back on your life and know that you got something right?*

*You might want to ask my kids to corroborate that statement for you.

This was first posted two years ago.  My feelings haven’t changed.

In another post of two years ago, I was feeling outraged:

In a list of best Christmas movies, The Muppet Christmas Carol came only twenty-third.  Twenty-third!

I don’t know what muppet compiled the list, but Tory Boy, Spud and I are grievously insulted that the best version EVER of A Christmas Carol came so low on the list.  The Hubrooge thought it came in too high, of course; but his opinion has never counted in our house and it’s not going to start now.

I say that Tory Boy and Spud were outraged, but I never actually told them; I was afraid of their wrath.  The boys and I love The Muppet Christmas Carol and watching it is one of our family traditions in the run up to Christmas.  Now Tory Boy has left home, Spud and I have to wait until he’s here: watching it together is set in stone.

We confine the Hub to his room while we singalong to One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas.  The song about Scrooge is another favourite, though the Hub doesn’t get it.  How can he not love a song that boasts the line ‘No cheeses for us meeces’?

I have to confess never to have seen the Muppets. Do I have to go to the naughty corner?

I couldn’t agree with you more. My favorite is Ms Piggy singing “Christmas is Coming the Goose is getting fat..”

I agree with you; The Muppet Christmas Carol is a classic! I love it but don’t have it on tape or disc. Pity for me. I must wait for the television channels to recognize its brillance and air it.

Love the real muppets …. adore them. I don’t know what some people have in their drinks – when they like that. I must admit that I to some degree chose career before children – because I love to work aboard and move around (can do that with kids) .. we can’t have everything in life. My childhoods also had a great part in it. And I also agree that a man would never got that question, but on the other hand .. most of them chose the career anyhow and their wife’s has to stay at home with the kids.
If AW had asked me if I rather had have kids instead of a career, my answer would be No.
I think it’s right that mums stays at home with the kids – or dad’s doesn’t matter .. kids needs somebody at home. That is my strong believes.

The Hub would have stayed home if I had earned more, but I didn’t. His loss 🙂

You’re right … doesn’t matter that stays at home … the breadwinner has work, man or woman.

As I have never seen this film, I have no opinion of its rank. Personally, I like Daniel Day Lewis. If he weere in it I might have an opinion. As for kids, yes they are okay and I love mine, but I would have chosen another father for them if I could do it over. Dianne

My children were raised on the Muppets. I loved the television show. The world would be a softer place if we all regularly spent time with the whole Muppet family! 🙂

    Tilly,
I know of the Muppet Show, but have never heard of this Muppet Movie… Wow sounds like I’ve been missing something all these years!
I’ll have to see if I can order it here in NL, or search the internet otherwise. Sounds like a good one to add to our stash of family favourite DVD’s 🙂

Thank you so much for this post! I have never seen The Muppet Christmas Carol, watched your clip and loved it. Then I looked on the tv guide and they are showing it on Christmas Eve, will watch it then. What a great way to start Christmas!

It is! Though we have to watch it on Boxing Day, these days, because TB doesn’t get home until late Christmas Eve and Christmas day is too busy.

I was a stay at home mother by choice. It was a privilege to do so and I can still feel those hot little hands that held mine as we walked home from school each day.
