The Writer Bit

Franz Kafka said, “we ought to read only books that bite and sting us.” What’s the last thing you read that bit and stung you?

I’m into phrenology. There was this Black Widow Spider…

Oh, I’m sorry: I thought you said ‘we ought to read only bugs…’

Your personal sculptor is carving a person, thing or event from the last year of your life. What’s the statue of and what makes it so significant?

Inquiry: the last year as in 2012?

Or the last year as in, There was this Black Widow Spider…?

*

Do you have a favourite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?

‘Don’t put it down; put it away.’

It helps avoid clutter and unnecessary cleaning.  And hidden spiders.

*

Write a Q&A-style interview with an inanimate object.

Tilly Bud: So, Black Widow Spider, what does it feel like to be flattened with a hammer?

Black Widow Spider:  … … … …

*

Write about anything you’d like, but make sure the post includes this sentence: “I thought we’d never come back from that one.”

My lower back hurts this morning and I want to get off the computer as soon as possible.  The funny has had to be teased out of me like a magician’s hanky string.  When I wrote, I’m into phrenology.  There was this Black Widow Spider…, I knew this was going to be a lame post.  I thought we’d never come back from that one.

I was right.

*

Helplessness: that dull, sick feeling of not being the one at the reins. When did you last feel like that?

When the best I could come up with in answer to a prompt was an insect.

And what did you do about it?

Stopped writing.

‘Don’t put it down; put it away.’ – Brilliant – BRILLIANT … that I will remember – today my second day of cleaning – floors to be done .. and I’m going to start now – have put it away for over 8 weeks I think, and now it has to happen.

I love this post, but then again, I am afraid of Black Widow Spiders!

A spider is not an insect. It is an arachnid. You only have to count its legs to know that 🙂

*augh* I hate spiders. But you can even make a unique post with them.

Once again, you have managed to dispatch a number of Daily Prompts succinctly in one amazing post. Why aren’t you Freshly Pressed? Those people don’t recognize true creativity when they see it is the only answer.

I simply admire the initiative it takes to give the Daily Prompt a go! I think your creative nature might struggle against the mandate, but this was quite inspired. Weaving Kafka into it was even better! 🙂

Very good – as always. It made me smile, and cheered up the chilly, dark evening. 🙂

Was the Hub out saving spiders again? I never heard the phrase “Don’t put it down, put it away” I like it. I only heard in French the last part “Put it Away!” Range ca. is the French version.

Thank goodness you are okay. I was thinking about the “post-a-day” thingy but couldn’t figure out how to upload the label-badge-whatever. Just as well. If I write every day, I am really lame.Poor old Kafka, even he had off days now and then.

I thought that was an interesting prompt… I never think of books in that way… 🙂

I welcome your comments but be warned: I'm menopausal and as likely to snarl as smile. Wine or Maltesers are an acceptable bribe; or a compliment about my youthful looks and cheery disposition will do in a pinch.
