The Hub used to travel sub-Saharan Africa in his job. The Hub loves travelling, history, historic sites and being present at them.
In the early nineties he visited Burundi. He knew the source of the Nile was there somewhere; the famous spot (marked by a lump of rock; we Africans know how to reduce, re-use and recycle) where Stanley and Livingstone are said to have met. The Hub resolved to visit it, and did, arranging a ‘business trip’ to the area and spending a pleasant evening chatting with locals and swimming in a crocodile-infested river. I wasn’t worried: it’s a brave crocodile that would take on my husband in a determined mood.
There isn’t much the Hub can’t do once he resolves to do it. That’s how I ended up married to him.
UPDATE:
This post is rubbish.
Read tomorrow’s post for corrections.
Great way to resolve .. and close business. I think the crocodiles .. thought that he was better needed at home.

Dear Tilly! That made me laugh. Thanks! 🙂

I see what you mean by strong resolve. He’s obviously keeping that rock from rolling over onto him and his friend.

Funny story, Tilly. Particularly intrigued by “swimming in a crocodile-infested river.”
There are folks in the American South who swim where the ‘gators live, too, but I was never so inclined. Not far from where I used to live in South Carolina: “A very lovely southern state park along the darkly tannic Edisto River. Depending on water level, there may be opportunity to swim in the river (unofficial) at the state park . . . There are alligators around here, so swim at midday and make lots of noise if you go swimming, they are said not to like noise.”
Brave souls, the lot of them. 🙂

I love the picture and what you said “It’s a brave crocodile that would take on my husband when he’s in a determined mood” I think that most would agree; that is an apt depiction of the Hub. Beyond determined. Thank goodness or else you may have gotten away and then where would the Hub be? He would be sad. 😉

It was only because he got sick. He’d have done it forever, otherwise.

Funny, as you have written about the Hub I pictured him as about 6’4″ or so. Now he seems to be more like 5’9″ or David’s hight. This means you must be a short thing. Dianne

What an adventurer! I like to follow the history trail, too…but mixed with a strong sense of danger, I confine my interests to places without wildlife! 🙂

I like my adventures to be vicarious – he can go out and have them all, and then come home and tell me about it.
