I’m Nervous

I had intended to post about London today but I have spent most of it preparing for tomorrow: I am due to give a poetry reading to a lunch club group.

After some discussion with the group leader, I opted for a selection of my South African poems (remember them?) and anecdotes.

What has me nervous is the time I have to take – they want me to entertain them for a whole hour.

Gulp.

Wish me luck!

Oh my dear…I’m most confident that given you writing and speaking skills you’ll have no trouble presenting you fine work to them for an hour…it may not be quite long enough and they’ll have to invite you back…enjoy the time with them…it’s one of the few times you get to talk about yourself & poetry and people actually have to listen. šŸ™‚

Once you start reading your poems, your passion for South Africa will take over and you will be fine. They will love listening to you.

You CAN do it, TB. I could not. (Maybe I could, if I read for about 15 minutes, called for a half-hour smoke/coffee break, & then concluded my reading for the last 15).

Good luck! Read them your poetry, have a Q and A session, and the time will fly by. šŸ™‚

I am wishing you tremendous luck. However, you will be so taken with your passion for South Africa that the words will flow and the time will melt away without you even knowing, you will forget that you are presenting and you will simply be sharing something that you love with a group of very nice people and you know how much you love to share. It will be wonderful.:)

Tilly, you could entertain an audience for a whole lifetime! No need to worry, just be yourself. And have a lovely time.

Geesh. I hope it goes well, but I think most of us have forgotten the warning about our Malteser privileges being revoked. What I’d been thinking is you were asked to only speak for an hour? How will you manage? *with a wink and a smile*

Me, my own mind would wander if I was to read my poems for that long. And I’d probably need a pee break.

I’m too late, so I hope it went well. I’m sure it did (I was going to say more or less what Janie said, but she beat me to it).

I welcome your comments but be warned: I'm menopausal and as likely to snarl as smile. Wine or Maltesers are an acceptable bribe; or a compliment about my youthful looks and cheery disposition will do in a pinch.
