Tuesday Tattle

2013 has been a great year in many ways, but I do seem to have had a lot of minor ailments.   As someone who hardly ever gets sick except for the occasional cold, I am beginning to feel irritated with myself.

Or I would, if I didn’t feel so unwell.  It’s a sore throat, congestion and queasiness today.  Nothing a two-hour afternoon nap and a shout at the Hub can’t cure, I’m sure.

Thank you to those of you who have sent jokes in exchange for the hope of a box of Maltesers.  There’s still plenty of time to email them to thelaughinghousewife@gmail.com.  I’m looking for a good ‘un for Joke 1001.

I signed up for another creative writing class which began last night at the local high school.  It must be my fourth in as many years.  They are a great stimulus to writing, a way to make friends (you can never have enough friends; especially when you have a birthday coming up), and jolly good fun, too.

However, I forgot that we have to do fiction writing and I don’t like fiction writing, except about my life (you didn’t really think the Hub was happily married, did you?).  I have to create a character for next week and even I can see he’s cliché-ridden and a bit of jerk (sorry; I was daydreaming about…no, I’m not going there: it’s my birthday next week and I want him to be speaking to me).

In an effort to stave off the worst of this bug and lose weight at the same time, I have overdosed on Vitamin C today (too much Vitamin C acts as a natural laxative, apparently).

I had lemon juice in hot water but it tasted salty.  Does anyone know why?

I do hope it’s not that the dishwasher isn’t rinsing properly.

On the other hand, that would explain my general germiness.

That 5-second rule cartoon is absolutely hilarious!

As for the salty lemon water…you didn’t happen to use water from the North Sea did you?

*Offended* Manchester water is the best in England, thank you very much. Haven’t you heard of the softness of Manchester cotton? And we never have to de-scale our kettles.

It’s a 10 second rule in our house. As long as the cats don’t get there first.

For your fiction segment, you are welcome to swipe the brilliant tale I have posted. A sweeping saga of the Old West with a damsel in distress, a dashing hero, and a sad ending. (Bring a sick-bag.)

Sorry to hear that you’re feeling poorly. I hope things right themselves soon.

I love that last picture about the five second rule. If only germs were really that honourable!

I saw on the Science Channel while exercising that the five second rule is untrue…which may explain my germiness…hope you recover soon.

I’m sorry that you aren’t feeling well but you had me laughing throughout the entire post. Did you add sugar to the hot water? If you did perhaps you added salt instead accidentally. Or it could be the dishwasher or it could be the Hub being impish. It is a mystery, perhaps you can incorporate it into your fiction writing. 🙂

What a sensible solution! This is why you should be my manager 🙂

I didn’t add sugar, but maybe I should. I’m thinking of the calories…

However, today I have sucked on a whole bag of boiled sweets to keep the sore throat at bay, so maybe I should stop worrying 🙂

that will negate the loosing weight thingy… unless of course they were the sorbitol sweetened sort which certainly have a laxative effect.

Good to meet you last night. It’s the poetry I’m not looking forward to! Don’t overdo the boiled sweets, they’ll only make your throat worse, maybe a good drop of whisky with the lemon would be good. Get rid of the dishwasher and get the Hub to do the washing up instead!

I will be away next week so please accept my good wishes in advance? Excessive Vitamin C will kill it. Lean on chewable C- it has worked 95% of the time for me…really!

Sorry you aren’t feeling well. That’s never pleasant. I don’t think lemon in hot water would help me feel better, tho. Gimme some old fashioned chicken soup.

I have only two words for you: hand sanitizer.
With 2 kids that touch everything everywhere, it’s helped keeping many (but not all) germs at bay.

How about taking a multi-vitamin for your age group every day. It sounds like something is lacking in your system to help you fight off all these bugs. Wash your hands lots & lots, carry around hand sanitizer & use it every time you shake hands or touch something. A few years ago, the same thing happened to me & I almost had to become OCD to stop the cycle.

I’ve started taking calcium and Vitamin C and I am fanatical about hand washing but it’s obviously not enough. I always have sanitiser when I walk the dogs but that’s good advice about using it all the time.

      Thanks 🙂

I welcome your comments but be warned: I'm menopausal and as likely to snarl as smile. Wine or Maltesers are an acceptable bribe; or a compliment about my youthful looks and cheery disposition will do in a pinch.
