Hoo-Ray!

10 Mar

So glad to see Ray Quinn win the last-ever Dancing On Ice.  Incredible to think he’s an amateur.  Here’s his Bolero:

My favourite skate:

His solo skate:

What am I going to do now DOI has finished forever?  Sad face.

I guess I’ll have to watch Strictly.  Sadder face.

sadder face. I can watch the first but the other two –“the uploader has not made this video available in your country” bummer but the first one is amazing, truly…

He really did deserve to win. Strictly won’t start until September, so even sadder face! I prefer Strictly to DOI. Can’t stand Xfactor and the Voice – they don’t sing, they shout!

I could only watch the first and I immediately thought of the ice dancers Torvil and Dean who won their gold medals to Bolero. It is one of my favorite pieces and it was composed by Ravel, a French man, the French are notoriously weak in music so when one composes something wonderful hooray for them. Hooray for Ray! He did an amazing piece of ice dancing, very awesome indeed. 😀

T&D are the stars of DOI. They choreograph everything except the save-me skates and the Bolero.

Everyone also knows Ravel’s Bolero from ‘Ten’ 🙂

Oh yes the magnificent Bo Derek running on the sand. I was rooting for Torvil and Dean at each Olympics, they were my favorites every time.:)

In that case, I’ll admit to finding Bolero sexy – and it could only have been written by a Frenchman 😀

hee, hee I too find the Bolero tres sexy 😀 I wish that I could skate, it would be my skating song. I don’t skate as much as fall, I don’t think that falling to the music of Bolero would have the same effect.

For some reason I can’t explain, I wasn’t watching this year having watched it in previous years. However… I did happen to see most of the episode where Ray did his Spanish dance and I thought he was fabulous. I remember how good he was when he won it several years ago. As you say, hard to believe he’s an amateur.

I love watching ice skating. Something I’ll never be able to do, but one can look and enjoy. 🙂

We have a very similar series on here in Canada – it’s called Battle of the Blades. They pair a figure skater with a hockey skater & they skate routines on a weekly basis until a winner is chosen. Last year they even had a female hockey player from Team Canada paired with a male figure skater! It was incredibly difficult for her to learn to be lifted & trust her partner to catch her, etc. If you can get any episodes, check it out!

We don’t get this show in the U.S. and I think we have missed out!
