Regular readers know that, while I am always grateful to receive awards, appreciating the compliment and the kind thought, I never act on them. I consider them well-intentioned chain letters – without the threat of death and disaster if they are not forwarded, but chain letters all the same.
‘You’ve been tagged’ posts are just as bad, as a rule, but I have decided to play along with the latest because it’s about self-promotion, and you all know I’m in favour of that.
Robin Coyle tagged me. You should visit her blog to read about her book; it sounds fascinating, though she is a little too ready to give away the plot. We have had words about it.
The premise is simple: write a blog interview about your book, using the following questions:

Where did the idea come from for your book?
I lived in South Africa during and after Apartheid. It took fifteen years to get the experience out of my system. I had a lot of poems that I first posted on a now-defunct blog. Viv nagged me to do something with them.

What is a one-sentence synopsis of your book?
A book of poetry like South Africa itself: colourful, violent and a little bit crazy.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I will be sending it to several publishers but I will self-publish if necessary. So yes, it will be self-published.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Twenty-two years.

I don’t know of any. Unless you count any poem Philip Larkin wrote about his parents.

Who or what inspired you to write the book?
My sanity.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It’s not really poetry.

1. Your book IS poetry – full of wit, wisdom, philosophy and fun, with a spicing of angst.
2. Julie Walters is a consummate actress and Judi Dench could also play you to a T.
3. I could never be the next big thing: I’m only 4’10” and losing weight.
4. I’ve spent weeks putting together a collection on a flash disk, only to have the disk corrupt itself (probably my bad influence) and lost the lot. Will I start again? I don’t know, I’m tired.

The problem is that 3 our of 4 usb ports on the laptop are knackered. The only one that works is the one for the mouse dongle and even that is suspect, as it won’t accept the printer usb.

what I would like to do is to put all my poems stories and pictures onto a portable hard disk (which I have) but don’t know how to without a USB port. I think I need my son or grandson!

So they already had Morgan Freeman in a film where he played Mandela. Yes, the Hub looked like Brad Pitt when he was younger….what happened. Did you really look like Julie Walters? I don’t think so. From what i have seen of your younger photos you looked like a movie star. You need to select someone who can age well on screen.

Thanks Tilly!! I know that you are so very close to getting your book out into the big world and I can’t wait. I will get to this shout out, this one seems fun as opposed to the others. In relation to your movie; Brad Pitt excellent choice, I am thinking of your photos during your modeling stint and I would cast Carey Mulligan, she is going to be starring in The Great Gatsby opposite Leo DeCaprio. She is a wonderful actress and so pretty and adorable at the same time, like you!

I’d definitely want to know more about your book. Apartheid is a “fascinating” or our current history. I’ve always wondered how it could go on for so long, with such a small minority in power.

Sorry I have been a bit late replying but thank you so much for considering me to be the next big thing! I probably won’t do the post on the blog as I normally illustrate but the thought of who Myles and myself would have to play us in a film has had me in stitches all week. We’ve settled for Jeff Bridges for Myles (the Dude) and Rachel Weiss for me!!!!
