Reading Elaine’s post today about chocolate sprinkles on bread (sorry, Elaine, but bleurgghh), it occurred to me that I am not really a fan of chocolate. I like milk and white and would probably trade one of my children for a Malteser (only one of my kids – the other will be needed to bring me food when I’m too fat to leave my bed), but after that, I’m not bothered. I mean, I can gulp down a Kit Kat, a Crunchie, a Bounty and a bag of Buttons in one sitting, but I can take or leave them. Mostly take.
However, I never eat chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream, chocolate puddings or drink chocolate milk shake. I do love a good chocolate swiss roll but only if it has white fondant in the centre.
I prefer a good jelly bean or chewy sweet, angel cake or fairy cakes. My favourite cake is the little butterfly cake that is really a fairy cake with cream or butter icing.
I can’t be called a chocoholic – it’s not even a real word so if you do call me that, your slap in the face will be for the annoying neologism, not the insult – but I can be called a greedy pig.
How about you? Are you as annoying as my Mum, who would receive a box of chocolates at Christmas and still have half left in November?
Or is chocolate like drugs and alcohol to you, and must be eaten immediately if you have it in the house?
Chocolate sprinkles on bread – lovely….. Mind you, they are not just any chocolate sprinkles, they are quite chunky, but each to their own…;)
I am a chocolate fan, but not so much that I would trade a member of my family for it! 🙂 I do enjoy chocolate cake (though can’t manage the really rich ones), chocolate muffins, Bounty bars, Dairy Milk bars, Maltesers (yum), hot chocolate drinks in winter etc but I am more like your mum in my approach to it. If it is left to me, I can keep a box of chocs going for weeks, but when hubby is around, I have to eat them more quickly if I want to have more than one, as he is cannot have it lying in the house uneaten!

Absolutely love Chocolate. It’s the stuff they add to it I can’t stand.
Last night, folks were burning marshmallows over an open fire, slapping them onto generic graham crackers laden with MILK chocolate (a gag-reflexer, itself) and then eating them all stringy like melted mozzarella.
Well, I just looked away and sipped coffee. Sighs.

I am a chocoholic. The darker the better. And it is good for you in small amounts. It has antioxidants, you know. I adore Lindts dark chocolate truffles. And chocolate with fruit, especially raspberries or oranges, is to die for. I was very pleased to learn that now KitKat is making a dark chocolate version (I bought 3 bars the other day) and Milky Way has a dark chocolate version. But nothing compares to unadulerated dark (70% +) chocolate

Tilly you need to understand that there is ” Chocolate” and then there is ” CHOCOLATE” … the first is te cheap and nasty stuff… icky taste in your mouth and the texture is strange… then there is quality chocolate… and the two are worlds apart.
If you are talking the second sort then nothing is safe if i’m in the house, but the first sort… well packets may be years past their sell by date, I left them untouched so long.
I tried “kisses” in the USA once… sorry but ” yuck” I’m never kissing that stuff again if I can help it… OTOH you can walking into any chocolate shop in Belgium and be in chocolate heaven. (Dutch chocolatiers use Belgium chocolate too so they are also good)
Hiding it from the kids… that’s a given isn’t it? 🙂

Hiding it from the kids is universal, even here where some folks actually buy Hersheys kisses on purpose. I do keep one very good brand of dark chocolate in my purse for my grandkids to split a piece. It is so rich,they do not need more than half a serving. They love it and beg for it every time they see me. The ritual is the same:
They: “Grandmother, do you have candy in your purse?”
Me: “No.”
They look disappointed.
Me: “What do I have in my purse?”
They: “CHOCOLATE!”
We never call real chocolate ‘candy”. Sacrilege! 😉

Some people pour chocolate into their coffee. Ugh! I would never do that. I prefer iced coffee with a little skim milk. Makes my day! But, otherwise, I do like chocolate candy.

I like chocolate, my favorite ice cream has chocolate in it. However I don’t like chocolate all alone, it has to have something else such as hazelnuts, caramel or vanilla. Once I start I often don’t stop which is why I often do not start.

it depends on the quality of the choc. Maltesers in my house disappear like water down the plug hole..once I start I cannot stop but like you the rest of choc..cakes, ice cream or drinks..NO!
Talking of cakes merigues are my fav. with lots of cream that I can get my lips around, yummy! Swiss roll like you , choc as long as it house white thick creamy filling….anything creamy goes down well..trouble is that it stay on my hips, waist and tum but hey! you only have one life ,,enjoy it

Actually, backward — drugs are like chocolate to me — I need them to stay alive, to live a worthwhile life. I have to watch out for side effects, though, just like with drugs! Seriously, I love chocolate, and I’m thrilled that sugar free chocolate candy gets better by the day!

In Denmark do they have thin chocolate slices for sandwiches. The Danish eat on their sandwiches for breakfast. If I see anything on the airport next week I will buy for you. I love chocolate too – just like you can I just fill myself with one bar after the other. So I can’t have chocolate at home – and I have been good lately, haven’t bought any bars neither.
Somebody has said .. I don’t want to fall in love – I want to fall into chocolate, that’s me.

I love chocolate in many forms (though not really chocolate ice cream – though I really like vanilla ice cream with a fudge swirl) but I have learned to not gorge myself when it is around – but I try not to have it around just in case I weaken. Of course, the same could be said for many other varieties of sweet things. Or bread. Or salty snacks.

I always say that I can pass on chocolate…and I tease friends that I have wonderful self-control. But then I ‘fess up and say that my self-control is directly tied to the fact that I try not to bring chocolate into the house. If I don’t have any within arms’ reach then I have self-control. Good plan? I would hate to tell you how much chocolate I’ve eaten this week just because I bought Halloween candy early! Good grief. I’m hopeless!

Chocolate is my favorite food group. It is at the base for the food pyramid, isn’t it? Dark is best, for it’s antioxidants, and I would gladly trade AA Hubby for a big, ole’ box of it.

Thank you very much, you can keep all the white and creamy stuff as I can only eat a little dark chocolate, Sometimes with orange or ginger and I discovered the two small squares of chilli chocolate totally satisfies my need for a day. Now to tear the house down for a little dark crumb!

Current faves: Coffee beans covered in dark chocolate – yum. But only two or three at a time, or Green and Blacks 34% milk chocolate. (Cadbury’s is too sweet really)
I have just made (still cooling) Mary Berry’s chocolate brownies: yum 🙂 – using a family secret adaptation of the recipe. If I told you how, I’d have to kill you.
